Facing the Future
Event opener
This event opener was inspired by the Muse song “The 2nd Law: Isolated System” which includes an audio montage of news reports. We wanted to create a similar effect, but with a lighter, more positive tone.
Our client provided key words and phrases associated with the conference, which we researched and extracted information on to write the script. We sourced 10 different voice artists who could deliver a news reporter tone and assigned each 3-5 lines from the script. These were edited, mixed and mastered to match the visuals.
The scale of the screen was massive, spanning three conjoined conference halls for an international audience, with the pixel count and aspect ratio way beyond traditional media outputs. We worked on the visual concept to match the unique screen layout designed by the event company. We emphasized and embraced this layout by continuing the segmented breakup of the images in polygonal form.
With such a large screen there’s always the concern of certain audience members having a diminished viewing experience, unless content is mirrored across the span of the hall. However, simple repeating images would not be paying respect to the AV design. Instead, we opted to offer unique but related visuals across the screen, playing with full screen visuals, mirrored or cloned content and balanced but unique visuals on either side and in the centre. The idea was that each person in the hall would gain a slightly different and unique perspective from the others.
